CASH DISCOUNTING/SURCHARGING
DUAL PRICING
Dallas Morning News wrote an article as part of their watchdog report about business charging fees to customers for using credit and debit cards. In their research, the journalist discovered a new regulation had passed. The regulation was not only at the state level but also at the federal level. The regulation allowed businesses to offer a discount for paying with cash, show two different prices, or add a fee to the sale total. The purpose behind this new regulation was to offset the fees charged to a business for accepting credit and debit cards as a form of payment. The 9 small businesses that banned together won the lawsuit, opening the opportunity for all businesses to offset the fees paid for accepting credit and debit cards.
